Yesterday was the maddest day of my working life, I was flat-out all-day firefighting the craziness that is going on around us all currently
Adrenaline was pumping and I was mentally exhausted by the enormity of the situation small and large business are now finding themselves in
I reckon I spoke to about a hundred business contacts/customers in all corners of the world yesterday to gauge business sentiment out there
There seems to be a real mix in the approaches business are taking – with everyone pushing on as best they can.
There are those able to adapt to this big sudden change and coming up with creative ways to get on working and keep business going. Fighters in business who want to keep on fighting so they come out the other end of this in the best possible shape
Then there are those who have had to take the cautious approach, freezing hiring, stopping projects, not taking any business risks. Soldiers looking at damage control.
Only time will tell which approach will work best but at the end of the day, different things will work for different companies depending on size, sector and age, and you have to do what is best for the business.
I for one am ready to take my troops into battle, over the top into no man’s land alongside them dodging bullets with them. Leaders need to lead, not hide away under Westminster in safe bunkers sending out orders to the front line. From a business perspective this feels the right move for Som3
Many of us have been sailing our businesses through slightly choppy water for a few years (some lucky enough to be meandering through a mill pond!), well now Folks, we are sailing into a force ten mega storm…..see you safely at port for a beer soon
Let the scientists get on with Covid-19 and advise / guide us through it, and business leaders need to grab the reins and do what we can to keep the economy going.
It is going to be a tough few months, full of uncertainty for everyone regardless of sector – but putting your head in the sand waiting for it to blow over is not going to be the way forward for us
We are up for this fight at som3. We will do whatever we need to do to get through this, as a team.
Bring it on.
